Council Minutes

Minutes of the school council
17th July 2012

This meeting was our last meeting of this school year and it was special because… we got to meet the Mayor and the Mayoress. We set of in the mini busses at 10:50 and arrived at 11:00.

The town hall looked amazing from the outside but even more amazing from the inside. When we walked in we looked around and then a man appeared. He was the Mayors carer and he showed us up the stairs.

He showed us the council chamber and that’s were we sat to await the Mayor and the mayoress. Finally they arrived and we all stood while she sat in the head chair. Miss Bowker was taking pictures while the mayor was speaking.

The council chamber was very grand with huge paintings/murals on the walls, an ornate ceiling and coloured stained glass windows.
(Continued)
The mayor introduced her self and the mayoress and discussed the council agenda.

School uniform
We had a discussion about school uniform and this is what people said:
Victoria (yr1) – you can have non-uniform days.
Jordan (yr6) – It’s not good if we have school
+ Jake (yr6) uniform because we all look the same.
Amy (yr3) – If you were school uniform it won’t spoil your new clothes.

And then we had a vote
Yes=8people No=4people school uniform wins

A set bedtime
We had a discussion about a set bedtime and this is what people said:
Victoria (yr1) – Watch T.V in your room and then go to bed.
Leanne (yr5) – have a set bedtime so you go to school on time.

(Continued)

Amy (yr1) – you should have a set bedtime so you are not tired the next day.
Amy (yr3) – A set bedtime is a good thing but the time depends on your age and a range of times are 7pm – 9pm.
Jordan (yr6) – An average human being has to have at least 9 hours of sleep so if I go to bed at 9pm I would wake up at 6am.
Jithin (yr4) – if you have activities after school and it goes past your bedtime you need to go to bed later.

And then we had a vote for a set bedtime and here are the results:
Yes=4people No=4people abstain=4people

The mayor told us about the murals and the history of the town hall.

The mayor has a special parlour. You are not aloud to just walk in you have to have a special invitation to come in. The mayor can only be mayor once.

(Continued)
The mayor’s carer told us all about the mayor’s parlour and all about her.

When the Mayor went to see the queen the queen told her about a new stamp coming out after the Olympics.

In the next school year we are going to choose one of the mayor’s charities to support. There have been over 140 mayors.

At the end we signed the leavers book had a few photos got an award and then we had to go.
Mrs Adams was driving the mini bus. We arrived at school at 12:10.

Signed Amy Abernethy
(school council secretary)
